Village Sign

After the threat of some rain, the sun shone on the unveilling of the new village sign (12th July 2010).

Painted by Anne Bowen, a local artist, the winning entry proudly swings in front of the Royal Mail Sorting Office (GU30 7DH).

Anyone living in or passing through Liphook village could not fail to notice the stunning, colourful flower displays that change with the seasons.

What many people don't realise is that these beds, containers and hanging baskets, along with many other banks of flowers and shrubs in the village, are planted, weeded and cared for by a dedicated group of volunteers known as Liphook In Bloom.

With the generous help of our sponsors - most of which are local businesses and residents (see our Sponsors page), we turn out in sunshine, rain, hail and snow (we've even had them all at once!) to keep Liphook looking lovely.

But there's so much more to it than that ...

Flower basket 2010 Liphook In Bloom was formed over ten years ago with the intention of making Liphook a better place to live, work, shop and play. The aim of our pioneer volunteers (read more about them on our History page) was to involve all the different elements of the local community in the project. This was a project that would unite the community and bring benefits to everyone in it.

The Working Team (read about what we do on our Working Days page) does all the gardening work, our sponsors provide the funds to pay for all the plants, compost, fertilisers etc and local school participation means that even our young community is involved. Hopefully these young people will be tomorrow's Working Team.

Every year we organise a local competition. Every village resident is eligible to enter (see our Local Competition page for details of how to enter). We also enter the village in the South in Bloom national competition and have won a prize every year since we began! (visit our South in Bloom and Prize History pages).

We are always looking for new volunteers to join our team. We always need people to water the beds and baskets in summer. We need helpers to plant, dig, prune and weed. You don't have to commit to working every time we are out - just a helping hand once in a while is enough. You can find out from this site at any time when we are having our next Working Day (click on our Working Days page).

But if you don't like gardening there are other ways you can support us. Help us to keep litter in the village to a minimum by keeping the environment clean around your home or business. Make a donation, however small. Every year we raise all our funds ourselves to buy plants so that the displays can dazzle residents and visitors alike and keep the village looking lovely.
